Flashing Lights

12 05 2008

I got pulled over after the Glow in the Dark concert Sat. night.  Because I was driving TOO SLOW.  Ha! I still can’t believe that one.  Me of all people. Queen Leadfoot herself.

Let’s back it up to the beginning.  Shall we?

**************************************************************************************************

The show was at the Nissan Pavillion in VA which is about 50 miles from my house. Never again!  The drive wasn’t that bad going, but getting out of there was a nightmare.  It took over an hour just to get out of the parking lot.  Apparently, this was the biggest show on their tour so far.  21,000 people in the audience and they all brought their own cars…like me.  In my defense, carpooling wasn’t much of an option for me since the girls I met up with live in VA and I don’t.

So remember when my car broke down and Grandma let me borrow hers indefinitely? Well, my friends, another one bit the dust.  I must have that magic touch.  While I was driving, the speedometer and odometer shut down and the car all but died right there on 66-W.  The check engine light came on.  The engine started revving like a lawnmower.  The bumper-to-bumper traffic made it less obvious that something was seriously wrong with this car, but I refused to pull over.

The show was about to start and DAMMIT I was not wasting $60 bucks and a two hour drive to see Kanye & Friends to sit on the side of the road waiting on AAA.  Not gonna happen.

I just happened to be talking to my friend, Jr., at the time.  So I’m on the phone freaking out.  Then I start screaming in his ear.  Every time I put my foot on the gas it felt like the car was being rear ended.  Each time that happened I screamed in his ear.  Then I started burning up.  I figured my nerves were just getting real bad.  Then I realized the freaking heat was on and it already felt like 80 degrees in the sun.  I must’ve accidentally bumped the controls or something.  So now I’m freaking out that the car is about to overheat and I’m gonna miss the damn show.   He’s telling me to pull over and I’m telling him “Hell no!”

So I finally make it to the venue.  I figured I’d worry about getting home later.  I got a show to see…and it BETTER.BE.GOOD.  LOL.

Now…

MY REVIEW

Lupe Fiasco: Apparently, I missed his show.  I didn’t know it had started already.  I was trying to wait on the girls to arrive.  Amazingly, I beat them there.  He later performed ’Touch the Sky’ w/ Kanye.  (B+)

N*E*R*D: Typical Homeboys acting a fool on stage.  No big deal. (B)

Rihanna:  She sang a whole lot better than I thought she would.  She was looking very cute.  Nothing spectacular happened during her show though.  A little choreography, a lot of neon, a couple of umbrellas.  That’s about it. (B+)

Mr. West:  Clearly the star of the show.  Whatever budget they had went to him and him alone.  There was a storyline: He lands on a planet and tries to find his way back to Earth.  He’s aided by a Japanalien-ish figure in a spaceship. He had pyrotechnics which I loved. Hot colors and smoke.  Visions of bootylicious golddiggers.  He did a great job. (A+)

**************************************************************************************************

Best Kanye moment:

Kanye (to the space ship): Don’t you know who I am?!  I’m Kanye to the.

Japanalien: Of course we know who you are.  You’re the brightest star in the universe.

Ha!  That was funny!  Gotta love his arrogance.

Now back to me…

11:00pm: Show’s over.  I’m finally in the car.

12:30am: Just getting out of the parking lot.  No radio.  Just sitting in silence and praying HARD.

12:45am: I put the car in 2 thinking that might help it move faster.  It works.

1:00am:  Called AAA.  Don’t think I’m gonna make it all the way home.  Tell them I’m gonna try to drive ’til I can’t drive no more.

1:50am:  Pulled over by MD State Trooper on 495.  He clocked me at 29mph!!  Who knew?  I sure didn’t since the speedometer was broken.  He gave me a warning and suggested I get off the highway and take the local streets home so I don’t get killed by a drunk driver.  Luckily, I was halfway home at that point.

2:30am:  Getting very sleepy…

3:00am:  Home Sweet Home.  I can’t believe I made it.  Boy, did I have to pee. (TMI?)

Mother’s Day:  I was Home Alone.  I did research on the car and looked for a repair shop to take it to.  I called my Mom, Grandma, & Aunt.  I felt sh*tty telling my Grandma I had to put her car in the shop…on Mother’s Day.  So my day sucked (and prolly theirs too).   :(

And, how was yours?

Flashback Friday

9 05 2008

I just got last minute tickets to go see Kanye’s Glow in the Dark tour feat. Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco, and N*E*R*D tomorrow.  I hadn’t planned on going at all, but I gotta say I’m looking forward to it now.  I’ve heard some good things.

I’m a big concert buff and I heart Rihanna.  She’s sickingly adorable and now she reminds me of myself.  You can chronicle her evolution as an artist based on the hairstyle she was rocking at the time.  Kind of like Madonna.  Whenever I try to remember past events in my own life I have to think back to how long or short my hair was just to figure out the time frame.

Short in ‘95, Bob in ‘98, Short in ‘00, Long in ‘02 and so on and so forth.

Coincidentally, she jacked my haircut.  But it’s ok.  I’m thinking about growing it out again anyway.

Dirty Little Secret #10

I used a movie, “The Notebook“, as a Weapon of Mass Affection.

When I’m in a relationship I’m never the first one to say “I love you“.  I don’t know what I would do if the other person just said “Thanks” and kept it moving.  My little heart would be crushed.

So, I’d been with my ex for quite a while…months.  Long enough for me to know that he was completely smitten and long enough for me to wonder what was taking him so long to say those 3 little words.

I’d heard from some co-workers that The Notebook was the greatest love story. Ever.  You’ll cry and then you’ll make babies.  Blah blah blah.   So I bought it and decided to put it to the test.

One day I went over to the Ex’s apartment and I brought The Notebook with me.  I was gonna make him watch it if it was the last thing he did.  Luckily for me he didn’t put up much of a fight, but he wasn’t jumping for joy either.  I had trained him well.

We lay in bed that afternoon, snuggled up watching the movie.  I turned and looked at him. I could see he was really feeling this movie.  It blew my mind!  This was going better than I had expected.

Before the movie even ended he turns to me and says “Do you love me?”

Me: “Why?  Do you love me?”

Ex: “Yeah. I do.”

Me: “Good.  I love you, too.”

JACKPOT!!!

I like white sandy beaches, too

6 05 2008

So…my BFF peaced out and went to the Grenadines (St. Vincent) yesterday without me.  She thought it was best to take her husband on her FREE all-expenses paid trip for two.

Damn him.

That sooo could’ve been my trip.

If I were going, these babies would be mine…

  1. Beach Sexy banana monokini, $52
  2. OndadeMar paisley monokini, $216
  3. Beach Sexy eyelet trim top, $25; bottom, $24
  4. Vix swirl top, $60; bottom, $60
  5. Beach Sexy adjustable top, $15; bottom $14

Now that I think of it…I could just buy them anyway.  Maybe the universe will magically send a hot studmuffin of a man my way.  One who’ll want to whisk me away to some secluded spot in the Caribbean (preferably Martinique or St. Lucia). We’ll lay by the poolside.  He’ll paint my toenails while I sip on lemon drops and pometinis.  Aaaah…yes.  That’s what I call a vacation.

I’m not one to toot my own horn, but I designed a new banner for my friend, Tash’s blog, Seoul to Soul.  I think it turned out pretty well…

Tash is a DC native spending a year in South Korea where she’s teaching the little churrin’ to speak English. It’s a great site that documents her new life overseas and her skills as a fantastic picture taker.  99.7% of the photos on the site were taken by her.

Tash and her friend Chris also launched a brand new site, Potent Praise.  Check it out and get some Jesus in your life.  You know you need it.

My new favorite song

3 05 2008

The new song “Rising Up” by The Roots is hot!  I love Chrisette Michele on the hook and Wale and the Go-Go beat are on point.  I may be a little biased here, but I gotta rep for my city.  Ya dig?

I’m a big fan of DC/Philly collabos.

Remember this one from Jilly from PhillyIt’s Love - Jill Scott

and the live version…
